Catching Up With the Camera

It has been a few days – well more than a few days – since the last time we met on these pages. I have been pretty busy with various events and intend to post some pictures soon. I spent some time taking pictures of horses and buggies (wagons?) and also shooting pictures at the wedding of a friend’s daughter.

We volunteered to work at a competitive driving event eight days ago in Burnet, Texas. I had no expectations or past experience at a driving event so it was all new to me. Basically horses and buggies compete through a series of timed obstacles, some quite complex. The stop watch is triggered when the horses nose passes the post at A and stopped when the horse exits D. And, I guess some drivers are excused from entering Gate D. (Hey, I was the photographer, not the gate keeper – so don’t ask me the rules.)

I took pictures of small buggies being pulled by VSE (Very Small Equines) and larger buggies hurled through the air behind one or two large horses, and in some cases, with both a driver and a navigator. It was a great event to watch and making pictures was both challenging and fun. I shot over 500 photos with my Olympus OM1 Mark II and the 40-150 lens. (Note: I also managed to walk several thousand steps over the 300 acres comprising the course.)

Here are some pictures from the Competitive Driving E:vent

Last week Wednesday I had the opportunity to taking some pictures for a friend at an outdoor wedding ceremony. We thought it might rain but the weather, while warm, could not have been more cooperative. I shot Nikon gear at the wedding and the D810 and Z7 cameras proved once again that they are very professional imaging tools. It was exhausting but fun to shoot a wedding again, my first in almost two years. After editing and culling I am down to just under 800 images. I think I will make another pass in an attempt to get to something between 500 and 600.

I will add some pictures after the bride posts on her FB page. Stay tuned.

My work for pay was technical writing. But my passion is collecting classic photo gear and using film cameras and digital cameras to capture images that inspire and motivate me. I hope that you are inspired as well. This site is more about my places that my wife and I go on our travels. Or articles about cameras and lenses that I am currently using. Sometimes I will include links to images that I want to share with you.
