I carried two cameras to Pistons on the Square two weeks ago. One was a Fuji medium format digital and the other was a 40+ year old Olympus 35mm SLR. This posting features pictures taken by the Olympus OM4 with the OM 50mm 1.4 lens from 1983.
The old camera doesn’t have the bells and whistles of the modern mirrorless medium format camera, but it is much lighter and forces me to slow down for focusing and for conversation. All in all it was a fun experience to shoot film, black and white Fuji Acros 100, and Kodak 400 color film.

It’s hard for me to pick my favorite picture or favorite car of the day. I am almost immediately attracted to cars from the 30’s to the 60’s since those are the cars from my youth. I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s and cars from that era immediately grab my attention. There were some Shelby Cobras there, and if there was one car that I have lusted after my entire adult life, it’s a Cobra. Let me show you what I mean.

Or another angle.

I had a chance to talk to the owner and try to answer his questions about why I am shooting with a 40 year old film camera. I mumbled something about the camera and film forcing me to slow down , compose and focus. It makes sense to me anyway. I really enjoy using a small camera with a good lens.

Here are some black and white film images from the Olympus OM4 and the 50mm 1.4 lens.
