I took some time last week to shoot a test roll of Kodak Portra 160 NC that expired in 2005. The film had been preserved in a frozen state for over 20 years but I wasn’t sure what I’d get. I set the meter on my iPhone for ISO 80 instead of 160. It is a common recommendation to open the lens one stop for each decade in the freezer. I thought I would try one stop instead of two – I did not want to overexpose the pictures. As it turns out, that was a great choice. Here are the 12 pictures from that roll of film.

I cleaned up some of the flaws on the film (developer spots) and did little else to edit these pictures. The camera functioned flawlessly. It’s my lightest medium format camera; it’s very easy to carry and focus. I had a mistake where I got one double exposure when I cocked the shutter without winding the film. The camera has a switch to prevent doubles, but I kind of like the result.
